personal space is an interior design and styling firm that believes that how people live, what people use, and what people wear directly impact one’s self-confidence and individuality. We believe design is where material meets soul.
Founded in 2014, our intimate coaching-type relationship for both commercial and residential clients affords us the luxury to create designs that are truly trend-forward and speak directly to the client’s goals. personal space builds self-confidence and individuality through the power of design.
personal space’s casual but fun interior designs are renowned for bottling the essence of the client, shaking it up, and pouring out a soulful interpretation of the client’s true identity. The brand’s imprint spans from residential and commercial interior design with a signature style that juxtaposes fun with functional, increases the volume of form and color, and seamlessly blends diverse periods of furniture under one roof. Principal Designer Nelly Arnold combines her Western roots, Midatlantic sophistication, and European eye for trend to bring a fresh look, feel, and meaning of modern interior design in Philadelphia.
Nelly’s designs attract and inspire an enviable roster of clientele from the technology, entertainment, and design industries as well as local tastemakers and intellectuals. Her trademark sumptuous and vibrant interiors imbue newly constructed rowhomes, suburban mansions, and booming franchise businesses. Among Nelly’s expansive and diverse lifestyle portfolio are collaborations with some of the most respected local artisans in the City; commissioning artwork and furniture exclusively for her client’s spaces.
Showcasing her definitive work is the firm’s headquarters at the Bok in South Philadelphia. She relocated to the Bok after transitioning interior design firm from part-time to full-time. A common thread in her past at Urban Outfitters, DiscoverPHL, and other companies is the energy and mentorship she brought to the projects and people around her. Her experience in interior design and fashion sparked a realization that much of success depends on one’s self-confidence and the tools used to build that self-confidence.
Standout accolades for Nelly include Billy Penn’s Who’s Next: Entrepreneur, featured entrepreneur on Capturing Lightening, featured interior designer for the Philadelphia Furniture Bank and Pathway’s to Housing blog, and a select few of Philadelphia’s Keeper and Connectors.
She serves on the board of the International Furnishings Design Association and volunteers with the Philadelphia Furniture Bank and Pathways to Housing to combat homelessness in the City.
Nelly resides in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia with her shih tzu Benny.
How We Build Confidence with Great Design
Each space is thoughtfully designed to reflect the client’s culture, personality, and style. Clients often feel that, at the end of the design process, their aesthetic was challenged and stretched. We follow a specific process to ensure the we craft a space supporting the client’s goals and deliver a project on time and within budget.
