Design Trend: The Dark Side of Exterior Paint

Part of the design process includes trend forecasting. It’s a process of doing niche in-depth research and then making predictions on what’s next. For many of us, 2020 brought a move to a new or second home with an eye on new trends. With that, come home improvements and now with spring in the air and the weather warming up, we are starting to turn our attention to our home’s exterior.

I recently faced a decision on what to paint our new shore house. That faded yellow stucco was not working at all and while looking for a new color to excite my design sense, I fell in love with Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze - the 2021 Sherwin-Williams color of the year. It is dark, modern, shimmery, and romantic. Pair it with warm metal accents, like brass porch lights or bronze patio furniture, and it shines like its metallic namesake.

This color can really modernize any home, including the interior, and give it a trend forward urban coastal feel. By the way, Urbane Bronze is right next to Porpoise on the color chart. It is a lighter more approachable alternative and love that name - just saying!

From those findings, the team turns emerging themes into the annual Colormix Forecast and zeroes in on a Color of the Year. Urbane Bronze SW 7048, is the 11th official Color of the Year.
